Help with Position Papers

The primary purpose of a UN paper is to propose as many practical solutions for the UN in order to fix your problem. These solutions should be on behalf of the country you are representing. The paper is limited to 5 pages and requires a title page and works consulted. To facilitate the process, here are two sample paper formats for you to follow.

Sample A:

I. Short Introduction
II. Background information on topic and the problem (about ½ - ¾ of a page)
III. Your country’s views on the problem and national concerns with the problem (1 page)
IV. World’s views on problem and international concerns with the problem ( about ¾ of a page)
V. Resolutions on behalf of your country for the UN to carry out (2 pages) VI. Short Conclusion

Sample B:

I. Short Introduction
II. Background of topic in world ( about ½ - ¾ of a page)
III. Background of topic in your country if it applies ( about ½ of a page)
IV. Previous actions taken, if any (about ¾ of a page)
V. Solutions specifically for your country (1 page)
VI. Solutions for the world (1 page)
VII. Short Conclusion

To further enhance your organizational skills, you may also want to include headings before each paragraph or section of your paper. As sponsored by Noam and Jono, headings may include “Introduction, Explanation of Problem, Global Impact, National Impact, Solutions, Conclusion, etc.” This is not mandatory but a good suggestion to keep you on focus and help you to appropriately distribute/limit your information.

Works Consulted:

This is a Works Consulted page, not just a Works Cited page. Therefore any sources you consult should obviously go on this page. It is required that you not rely solely on internet sources. We will be expecting you to get to Rutgers Alexander Library (or some other library) and find pertinent books for your issues. Basic Internet links can be found on the links page.
